Taieri

Oyster catchers trot away like sheep
Their old tired backs bent and shoulders hunched
Wrapped in a jet black shawl
Even on beautiful days braced against the perpetual storm

The little blue penguin lies in state

No one to pay their respects
Except the tiny mites that knock on her eyelids
Shouting “Let me in! Let me in!”
“Let me feed on your sweet rotting flesh”

The sand dunes collapse at the sight of me

I congratulate myself at my powers of persuasion
And I move on

The waves tease my feet

“Come closer” they say
And so I do
And so they send a big wave
That wets me to my knees
I know how this game works
But sometimes it’s more fun to be naive

I poke at big piece of bull kelp

A thousand sandhoppers jump
For joy or fearing for their lives
I wish them all the best as they
Jump to find a good mate
Or something wholesome to eat
Or somewhere to rest their weary heads for a while
For they know the meaning of life
Those three things
And don’t let any fool tell you otherwise

I pass a dead red-beaked gull

It’s head raw flesh
Partly devoured by black flies
Who lay the eggs of the next generation
Life and death are never far apart

At the river mouth

A harem of sparrows tell each other about their day
They flit between dead bush lupins
While the Agave america watch on
Their giant spears of seed
Stabbing at the sky

The lagoon looks void of life at first

But rewards come to those who wait
Tiny shrimp dart about in the shallows
And juvenile fish dart amongst the shrimp
The whelks quietly go about their business
Continuously rasping from one day to the next

A light breeze teases

There are no zephyrs in these parts
No one to tell them
How they’re supposed to live

The tides rise and fall

With my footsteps
I walk and I think
And I know
It is all holy

Bones

The letters on the page
Are just bones for my words
Billboard frames
Scaffolding

I hang meaning
Like flesh and blood
Bold scenes with brush
I paint words

Monolith

I wear my uniform
But I am multiheaded
A beast
I identify
And are identified
But it only means so much
Certain bars
And certain people
Won't let me in
That's why my chosen uniform
Is useful
It detects arseholes
I've got a real job
But I  haven't had a real haircut
In ten years
Multiheaded beast
Medusa
Chameleon
Be real
Always be real
Accept
Embrace
Exist
Those that want you to change
Feel uncomfortable with themselves
Because if they truly loved themselves
They wouldn't care
The leeches
The vampires
The small minded fucks
Want you to feel
Small
Useless
Pathetic
Weak
All they want is company
So wear your uniform
Without a trace of dogma
And exist
As a diverse life
As someone unique
As a human being

Blue Shark

She hunts

Molecules ride the currents

Feeling like squid

A worthy meal

Aha

Yes

Indeed

The fatal approach

All senses tuned

The final act

Swoosh

What the fuck is this?

All is not as it seems

A double agent squid

Hiding a hellish hook

In its long dead tentacles

The high grade steel

Slices through the corner of her mouth

Escape is now futile

Death is inevitable

A struggle ensues

Better to die fighting

Than to live for nothing

Circles

The only shape the cruel hook allows

While existence waits

Hours pass

In some far off direction

A slight tug pulls

And they are off

The water smells like death

And fear

It is thick with it

A soup of bad omens

Pulled awkwardly to the surface

The steel sided coffin awaits

A man shouts

This is too much

Thrashing and frothing

It is long too late

Pulled to the side

Argh!!!!!!

Posiedon's fury

A gaff hook buries deep into her stomach

And comes out the other side

Hauled unceremoniously on deck

Thrashing

And frothing

She is pinned

And she is sworn at

And she receives underserving venonmous anger

From her small minded assailent

This is surely Hell

Cold blade

Cold knife

Cold heart

Cold life

More high grade steel

Cold blood explodes across the deck

Somehow the colour of both life and death

And indifference

This time a deep cut behind the gills

Severs her back bone

But the desire to live

Will not be severed for a few hours yet

The cut is deep

It enters the body cavity

The stomach bag spills out onto the deck

And then the high grade steel finishes its callous work

Four slices

One slice for the dorsal fin

One for each of the pectoral fins

One for the bottom of the tail fin

Four bits of cartilage

Cartilage soup

A delicacy

With everything taken

But still looking shark like

Her carcass is tossed back into the oceans jaws

As unceremoniously as she came

Still thrashing and frothing

Although now it’s just her nerves

Synapses firing

Slower and slower

The occasional muscle spasm

And then stillness

She lays at the bottom in darkness

Almost severed in two

And missing her fins

This is how her spirit leaves her body

This is how she dies

This is how her days end

Cold

Mutilated

And broken

End Of Days

Society is distorted
The end of days
Has been recorded
In the factories
That pump out shit
In the way
That we suck dick

End of days
End of days
End of days is coming

I see it
All around me
Armageddon's bell
Is tolling

The Day I Died

The day I died
I opened my eyes
For the first time
In my life

I realised then
The game is won or lost
With the roll of dice

Legacy

To stare truth in the face
Bare, naked and close
To see mask upon mask unveiled
Beyond the flesh and bones
Somewhere near the soul
You'll find truth

Perhaps that is the soul
Soul is truth
To be soul-full
You need to be truthful to yourself
And everyone else

These are the thoughts
That run through my head
And they are mine
My thoughts are only mine
The only thing I own without a doubt

They can shackle my body
And warp my mind
But crazy or not
My thoughts are still my thoughts

But who cares?
Right?
Thought without action
Is nothing but weakness

As the great sage Joey Shithead once said
Talk minus action equals zero
Thoughts minus action equals zero too
But even on a more fundamental level

Talk is cheap
But thoughts not talked
Are even cheaper

The greatest heros the world has seen
Didn't talk about doing things
They did them
Their legacy was bound in action
That is why the world remembers
