Blue Shark

She hunts

Molecules ride the currents

Feeling like squid

A worthy meal

Aha

Yes

Indeed

The fatal approach

All senses tuned

The final act

Swoosh

What the fuck is this?

All is not as it seems

A double agent squid

Hiding a hellish hook

In its long dead tentacles

The high grade steel

Slices through the corner of her mouth

Escape is now futile

Death is inevitable

A struggle ensues

Better to die fighting

Than to live for nothing

Circles

The only shape the cruel hook allows

While existence waits

Hours pass

In some far off direction

A slight tug pulls

And they are off

The water smells like death

And fear

It is thick with it

A soup of bad omens

Pulled awkwardly to the surface

The steel sided coffin awaits

A man shouts

This is too much

Thrashing and frothing

It is long too late

Pulled to the side

Argh!!!!!!

Posiedon's fury

A gaff hook buries deep into her stomach

And comes out the other side

Hauled unceremoniously on deck

Thrashing

And frothing

She is pinned

And she is sworn at

And she receives underserving venonmous anger

From her small minded assailent

This is surely Hell

Cold blade

Cold knife

Cold heart

Cold life

More high grade steel

Cold blood explodes across the deck

Somehow the colour of both life and death

And indifference

This time a deep cut behind the gills

Severs her back bone

But the desire to live

Will not be severed for a few hours yet

The cut is deep

It enters the body cavity

The stomach bag spills out onto the deck

And then the high grade steel finishes its callous work

Four slices

One slice for the dorsal fin

One for each of the pectoral fins

One for the bottom of the tail fin

Four bits of cartilage

Cartilage soup

A delicacy

With everything taken

But still looking shark like

Her carcass is tossed back into the oceans jaws

As unceremoniously as she came

Still thrashing and frothing

Although now it’s just her nerves

Synapses firing

Slower and slower

The occasional muscle spasm

And then stillness

She lays at the bottom in darkness

Almost severed in two

And missing her fins

This is how her spirit leaves her body

This is how she dies

This is how her days end

Cold

Mutilated

And broken
